In our series in 1 Corinthians we arrive at a humbling and astonishing passage – 1 Corinthians 2:6-16. It is full of some of the most spectacular and wonderful realities about being a Christian. Things so amazing that we wouldn’t believe them, if God hadn’t written them in the Bible.

By what standard?

As much as Christians might be tempted to get angry over the claims of the New Atheists, there is much that is fruitful in the debate. It forces believers to carefully and rigorously examine ‘why I believe?’. It also helps us understand where other people are coming from.

Below is a link to an excerpt from a public discussion between a Christian, Dough Wilson, and the late Christopher Hitchens (New Atheist). Here they discuss the issue of by what standard we might say anything in life is good, bad, right or wrong. It is clearly, a vital issue because everyone lives as if the question really does matter (even if they try to deny it by their words).

May 13th – the foolish power of the cross

The death of Jesus is foolish, weak and even plain ridiculous to those who don’t follow Jesus.

Do you agree? How could that be possible? How could it even be possible that God intends for it to be that way? What was God thinking?

We began a new series in 1 Corinthians. It is a letter written to the church in Corinth by the apostle Paul. One of the exciting things about the book of 1 Corinthians is that we’re again and again shown how the Christian life is all about grace.

Easter messages

This Easter we celebrated the death and resurrection of Jesus from Luke 23-24.

We saw that Jesus offered forgiveness and salvation from the cross. It wasn’t wishful thinking or false comfort but it was his plan all along. Jesus came to seek and save the lost.

We saw that rather than being gullible and easily misled, the disciples were sceptical and slow to believe that Jesus had risen from the dead. However, their unbelief dissolved in the face of the reality that Jesus had risen from the dead. So the most rational logical and reasonable explanation of the facts is that the same Jesus who died and was laid in the tomb rose bodily from the dead and met with his disciples.
